Problem with new tab animation

When the number of tabs exceeds the visible window space, creating a new tab causes the browser to scroll to the end of the tab list. I understand that, by default, new tabs are created at the end, but even with an extension forcing them to open next to the current tab, the animation still scrolls to the end.

Is there a way to prevent this? It seems like it's only possible when the tab is created in the background, but I would like it to be in the foreground.
