Chromium takes HID focus

If this were a collectible, it'd probably one of those ultra rare issues you never hear about.

I'm doubtful anyone can help, but here goes.

I've been able to duplicate this issue on two different Windows systems.

I have a Logitech G510 keyboard with the media control keys.  After upgrading to Windows 10's Anniversary Update, the media function keys (play/pause, stop, forward and reverse) stopped working.  I did a bit of troubleshooting, a bit of research and someone suggested restarting the HID service.

Exited my apps (this is important, because this included Chromium), restarted the service and lo and behold, the keys worked again!  I thought the problem was solved.

So I opened up apps again, went to push play to start some music...when they wouldn't work.  Again.

After a bit of trial and error, I figured out that Chromium was stealing the HID focus from the media keys.  Everything else with the keyboard works just fine, but if I have Chromium open, they do not work.  To play any media file, I have to use the on-screen controls.  The play/pause, stop, forward and reverse keys just won't work.

Has anyone else seen this issue before?  Windows 10 1604, 64-bit, Logitech G-510.  Chromium 55.0.2850.0 (64-bit).

Any ideas/suggestions/whatnot are most appreciated.

Why are you using Chromium? It does not update automatically which puts you at risk if you are not manually updating constantly.

If you are using Chromium that came from the chromium-browser-snapshots URL or if this reproduces in Chrome, you can search crbug.com for an existing issue and star it. If you cannot find one, file a new issue using the "New issue" link on the same page.
Please, do not add a "+1" or "Me too" or "Confirmed" (or similar) comment. It just wastes the time of Chrome engineers and sends unnecessary e-mails to all of the people who starred the issue.

You can reply with a link to the found or created issue and might get triaged (and fixed) faster.

Thank you.

can you try disabling your chrome extensions one by one? I wonder whether you have some extension using the chrome.usb api which would likely steal away the device from the the hid service

Can you please file a bug on crbug.com and CC me.
I've a win10 and a similar logitech keyboard back home. I'm pretty sure (but I need to re-test at this point) that the HID keys work fine for me when Chromium is on.
Are you using some app bundled with the keyboard or just using the default HID drivers for it?

Good idea!  I tried, went through each extension one by one, disabling as I went, but it didn't work.
Even with closing the browser each time after disabling each individually, the media keys won't work when Chromium is running.
