Speech Recognition/Voice Typing in chromium

Hi,

Preliminary note: I'm using only FLOSS, thus Linux & chrom*ium*.

Someone recently told me that in my google docs I could use "voice typing". Indded I can see the menu, but it does not work:

- I can see the "Voice Typing" entry in Tools menu

- I get the small "popup window" with the mic

- I click it, mic becomes red

- In the tab name, I can see a red dot for a few seconds

-Then nothing happens

I've installed google-chrome from there website and everything works.

Question1) Can someone tell me why it is not working and how I can get it working?

Question2) If not, can someone tell me how I can debug the problem ?

  I attached an extract of a detailed log I created following this, but I don't see anything anormal...

If I am not mistaken, speech recognition is powered by a Google API, so unless you have an API key and you tell Chromium to use it, you will not be able to use the web speech API.

This should work out of the box on Chrome, but doesn't.

Correction. Works on Chrome, not Chromium. Chromium in generally does not expose Google API keys. Though they can be retrieved by certain means.
