about:blank tab

I am looking for a way to suppress the about:blank tab when I am going
back from a particular webpage.

Say I click on a link in a webpage, and it opens in a new tab. Once I
get through with that page, I would like to be able push the back
arrow, and revert to the previous tab automatically. Now I go back,
then get the about:blank page, and have to click to close that tab.

I don't think I have had this issue in other types of browsers, so I
am having a bit of trouble getting used to it.

I do have a few extensions installed, and please let me know if this
is not normal behavior for chrome & I will try uninstalling the
extensions to see if that gets rid of the issue.
