Hi Chromium Community Team,

I hope you are doing well.

My name is Saksham and I am a programmer with experience in C, C++, Java, JavaScript,. I’m deeply interested in open source development, and I would love to start contributing to the Chromium project simply out of interest and passion for code — not as a job, but as a way to learn, grow, and give back to the community.

I would really appreciate your advice on the best way for a newcomer to begin contributing to Chromium, especially if they’re doing it out of curiosity and eagerness to help.

Specifically, I would love guidance on:

  1. Where to start
Are there “good first bugs” or beginner-friendly issues you recommend for someone with my skill set?

  2.   Wondering if there are any real-time or chat-based community spaces — such as Discord, Slack, Matrix, or others — where contributors and beginners can interact, ask quick questions, share ideas, and connect more casually?

  3. Remote participation
I am contributing purely out of interest — I want to understand how I can meaningfully help even if it’s small tasks at first.

Additionally, I’m planning to participate in Google Summer of Code (GSoC) with an open source project like Chromium in the future, and I know it’s helpful to talk with the community early so I understand the process better,

Thank you very much for your time

You haven't told much about your skillset but since you wrote good first bugs you can search them here:

1.
type:bug severity:s4 status:open - Chromium
you can adjust severity and priority based on your skillset.

2. There isn't any. There's a slack channel reserved for maintainers and frequent contributors.

3. Try searching for lower severity bugs and comment on issue tracker itself.

PS: I'm not a member of chromium.org
