Hi,

Using Chrome v25 on Win XP SP3 endpoints and have other settings configured in the GPO, all applying fine.  One setting I cannot see applying is setting the download directory.  I have set this to C:\downloadtest.  I am going into Chrome and attempting to download/open an attached file I get an error message.  RSOP and gpresult, shows policy is applying.

When I look on C:\ drive there is no folder created?

I believe NTFS permissions on C:\ is NOT an issue - test user can create manually folder there - also no typo's in the policy.

There are 4 places to configure this setting.  I have tried setting it in the user config\google Chrome group of settings - please advise is this needs to be set in the recommended group of settings as well or anyone seen this problem:

Computer Configuration\ADM\Google\Google Chrome\"Set Download Directory"

Computer Configuration\ADM\Google\Google Chrome (recommended)\"Set Download Directory"

User Configuration\ADM\Google\Google Chrome\"Set Download Directory"

User Configuration\ADM\Google\Google Chrome (recommended)\"Set Download Directory" # have it configured here with other settings.

Has anyone else seen this problem?

Thank You

I am setting it as C:\test  for example - is there any special syntax required? Does it only work for new local profiles?  Thanks.

- Does the policy appear in chrome://policy? The name is "DownloadDirectory".

- Setting it as a recommended policy means that it's just a default value that can be overridden by the user in the settings. Check that the Downloads location in chrome://settings has a policy indicator; if the policy is recommended then it's possible to reset it to the policy value.

- If the policy seems to be loaded with the right value but downloads fail, can you try to create the directory manually? Does that work?

Hello Joao, where can I access chrome://policy to check for DownloadDirectory?

Would this be in the HKCU reg keys?

Does this directory need to pre exist or does Chrome create on first download? Trying, pre-creating the directory now....

chrome://policy is a URL. Paste it within the address bar of the browser, just as you would paste/type www.google.com.

Thank You for the tip - very helpful!

It IS being applied - will look at other areas, such as permissions on C:\ drive.

Should the folder get created on Chrome launch or first file download?

Thanks

When you go to chrome://policy -- does DownloadDirectory say "Recommended" or "Mandatory" under the Level column?
