chrome is opening in tab grid layout format

I am trying to run web automation test on google chrome in android devices using Appium. During the test when my test is launching chrome instance then it is opening the chrome in tab grid layout page instead of the homepage with search bar in full screen mode. Although it is happening intermittently but causing really bad user experience.
