I am coming from the CefSharp Gitter, where we had an interesting conversation about the possibility of AAC being patent free now, at least according to some sources and its inclusion in some Linux distributions:
https://gitter.im/cefsharp/CefSharp
This topic along with the patent list, was also brought up here:
https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/the-state-of-patents-for-aac.22993/ so I wanted to ask if anyone already looked into it and knows more about if or when it would be possible to include AAC, in the same way MP3 was included years ago.
One of the reasons, why this might be worth looking into, is the fact, that the patents for h.264 are said to expire at the very end of 2022 and seeing how these two codecs are often used together, it might make adding h.264 easier and could potentially open the doors for some alternatives, like Open h.264 by CISCO, which can be used for a free implementation of h.264, but does not include any solution for the missing AAC support.

Sorry if I got anything wrong, I am not a patent lawyer and I am new to working with Chromium, so this might not make any sense to you, but I still hope someone can provide more information on this.
