Hi,

I am developing a remote desktop viewer that connects to our agent in windows, mac. Hoping to expand to chrome os. I know this can be done currently using chrome remote desktop alone.

I know that I can't  write a agent in chrome OS for sending remote desktop data as there are no public API as of now.

My query is can I use chromoting API from my viewer to connect to existing chrome remote desktop app in chrome os?

Hi Sai,

The API is a private implementation detail of the Chrome Remote Desktop connection process, so there's no guarantee it won't change in the future. As such, I wouldn't recommend using it outside of the official product.

Can you give more context on what you're trying to do?

Cheers,
Jamie

Hi Jamie,

We have a custom desktop management solution where we allow tech support people to take remote desktop. For this we install agents in the mac, windows , linux machines.

For our product we want to integrate chromebooks, so that remote desktop can be taken via our product to the chromebooks that are managed.

Can we write such persistent agents in chromebooks, if not I thought of bootstrapping upon the chrome remote desktop agent already present.

Thank you,
Sai Prasanna

In that case I think my original advice stands. There's no way to get a persistent agent running on a Chromebook, and you can't rely on the details of the Chrome Remote Desktop API staying static enough to build a product on top of it.
