I'm not familiar with how our password manager works, so hopefully someone on +chromium-dev can answer.

Hi Andrew,

I’m reaching out to clarify the future plans for the password manager on Android. Vivaldi currently relies on the legacy password manager and we do not plan to migrate to using Google Account–based passwords.

We’ve noticed that the legacy password manager has been marked as deprecated for several Chromium versions, and that the back-end was removed in version 142. We’re currently working to get it functional again by integrating with the desktop/iOS back-end, and we’re hopeful this approach will work.

Could you please confirm what the long-term plans are for the password manager? Specifically, will it be phased out across all platforms? If so, would it be possible to maintain the code behind build flags, so that Chromium-based browsers like Vivaldi can still use it?

Thank you very much for your time and help - it’s greatly appreciated.

There was a similar thread recently.

We don't have plans to phase it out on other platforms.
