Every time i start Chromium there is a notification under the address bar.

"Google API Keys are missing. Some functionality of chromium will be disabled"

I just want to keep using Chromium because it is faster than chrome but this bugs me a lot.
Is there  any way i can remove this?

You have to add the API keys manually in your args.gn file. Get then from cloud.google.com or follow the instructions on the website where you built Chromium.

It is pretty surprising to hear that Chromium is faster than Chrome.
Are you comparing the same version of them? They are almost
identical...

Hi Christian, I have used chrome while keeping apps like illustrator, Photoshop and premiere pro open in the background.
Chrome just eats up the ram, with chromium i do not have that problem

If you just downloaded it, then you have to contact the developer to add his API keys. I could build you a version of Chromium that has the API keys of you want. Other than that, you cannot remove it.

You can provide API keys in an environment variable. See near the
bottom of https://www.chromium.org/developers/how-tos/api-keys

So if i got you right, the problem is with my version of Chromium, if i find another version from another developer online the odds are am not going to have this notification?

Yes, that is correct. Again, I can build you a version that includes the API keys if you want.

Yeah that would be great, but i really don't know how this works, is it building a version a large process? Do you charge for it?

NO I do not charge. It is open source and it isn't a large process. I'll upload the link to he thread when I finish the build.

It is probably better for Mario to have his own API key, by following the procedure outlined at https://www.chromium.org/developers/how-tos/api-keys.
This way he could update Chromium (manually) and have the functionality working, regardless of the origin of his binaries.

(If you do not plan on updating your Chromium, you will be putting yourself at great risk)

Thanks for your concern, but the fact that i have no idea what API key even means and nothing makes sense to me from the link that you provided makes me think that would not be a good idea.
Also the great risk you are talking about, im just curious, what is it?

The instructions in the first part of the page should be pretty straightforward, I believe. But nevermind.

Browsers have security issues (this is a fact, not an opinion), which means that if you happen to browse to a web page that is designed to hack your computer using some well known security issue that Chrome had (fixed in the latest version), it will successfully hack your machine.

As an aside, I suspect this has nothing to do with Chrome the binary, but rather the fact that by default Chrome stores its user profiles in a different place than Chromium, so you are just starting with a fresh profile when you run Chromium.

Would be super curious about whether Chrome is faster for you if you start with a new directory via the command-line flag --user-data-dir=/tmp/foo

Excuse the lateness, but do you have a Mac, per chance?
I can also build the windows version if you have that. Just needed to know.

I found a fix

setx GOOGLE_API_KEY "no"
setx GOOGLE_DEFAULT_CLIENT_ID "no"
setx GOOGLE_DEFAULT_CLIENT_SECRET "no"
