After a virus? in XP I have downloaded Ubuntu 10.10 to my Compaq TC4200 tablet.
Constraint was CD size and tablet is 2005 vintage so would more recent version work?

I have managed to load Chromium but trying a Chrome download, latest?, I get

I get a message 'Dependency is not satisfiable: gconf-service'

Also trying to download Chrome remote Desktop I get an error 'Package is invalid. Details. Could not decode theme image'

Is it possible what I am trying to do?

We dropped support for old versions of ubuntu some time ago; to run a current version of Chrome you likely need 12.04 or later (since it's the current long term support release).

Please see https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95411?hl=en for Chrome system requirements.

Also, looking at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ubuntu_(operating_system)#Releases , Ubuntu 10.10 is not supported for about 1.5 years now. Using it is really not recommended.
