Google Now For Chrome API PERMISSION_DENIED

Hi,

I am trying to get https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromium/src/+/lkgr/components/ntp_snippets/remote/fetch.py to work. This Python script is supposed to fetch suggested articles from https://www.googleapis.com/auth/chrome-content-suggestions 

I did follow the steps in http://www.chromium.org/developers/how-tos/api-keys and after joining this group I did enable the Google Now API and created OAuth credential and an api key - but neither works. The message I get is

"Mothership Chrome Content Suggestions Private API has not been used in project  [my project id]  before or it is disabled. Enable it by visiting https://console.developers.google.com/apis/api/chromefeedcontentsuggestions-pa.googleapis.com/overview?project= [my project id]  then retry. If you enabled this API recently, wait a few minutes for the action to propagate to our systems and retry." ([my project id] is the number of the correct project)

It is correct that I didn't use this API in before but it isn't disabled. Any ideas what I am doing wrong?
