Hello Community,

i try to get fit with Google Speech API (GS-API) and was wanted to lean some Theory and common Info about it.
I already tried Android Examples for ASR and TTS szenarios and i did a Java-Application on WIndows Desktop using the Service hosted by Google [1]

But i´m hard confused, that i wont find some more Info about version history and the theoretic functional of Google Speech API. I mostly get some practical implementation for GS-API in android or java, java script. While i´m searching the Internet "with Google", i find regulary the "Web Speech API".
Based on this i have some question. Perhaps you will sense it as really stupid, but i wantto know :-/

What is Web Speech API (WS-API)?. Some detailed info i found at w3c [2] and the google chrome demo [3]. I have seen that the editor of [2] WS-API are from google inc. So i came on second question.
Is GS-API and WS-API the same thing or not?
If yes, why "everyone" or the general public is talking about GS-API?
What is GS-API then and why i need to join this group to get a key for requesting the service behind [1]?.
This group is called chronium, but when i take a look for chronium i find a free browser project and operating system. Free? isnt it sponsored by google? And where is the context to Speech Api?
Where can i find some more generell and theoretical information about GS-API - e.g. version history, interface documentation, basical functional sequence,

I hope i wont enervate you with my questions and you can help me!

The "Google Speech API" is intended for use by Chromium only; it's not for general public use. That is why there is no documentation and no way to get additional quota.
See also https://www.chromium.org/developers/how-tos/api-keys, and the many earlier threads about this topic on chromium-dev.

Please use a speech API suitable for your platform (e.g. the Web Speech API on the web, or android.speech on Android).

Ok, i see the Point. I thank you for your answer. Can you tell me something to Web Speech API please.

Is the Web Speech API a Google Product too?
is it only allowed in use with Google Chrome?

The Web Speech API is a standard based API, it is simply implemented by Chrome. I think Firefox is also implementing it (or implemented it) and maybe others.

I think you are referring to the implementation itself, which uses the Google Speech API, which has been discussed already.

Googling the Web Speech API will turn up articles explaining it, including the one you link to as [3], and the spec which you found [2].

It is not proprietary to Chrome (even though the spec editors are Google employees), but not all browsers presently support it. See, for instance, http://caniuse.com/#feat=web-speech.

If you want further assistance using this API, this is not the correct mailing list (this mailing list is for developing Chromium itself); you might try sites like Stack Overflow instead.
