Howdy folks,

Very quick update on branches and versions, since there were a few changes this morning.
  • Trunk is now at 5.0
  • Branch 302 is now also at 5.0
  • 249 stable (what was 4.0) has been branched to 249s (along w/ WebKit)
  • and finally, the 249 branch has now been updated to 4.1.249.0

More mild curiosity since I just asked about the release process and
Adam was kind enough to answer.

I notice that 249s is at 4.0.249.83, but the channel has 4.0.249.78. I
assume this is due to late-breaking fixes which will make it into the
stable channel after they go through QA, correct?

Is the 249s branch intended to be a read-only snapshot going forward,
meaning fixes go into 249 and will be part of 4.1?

This is confusing.
Why is the 302 branch at 5.0 (it says 4 on the actual Dev release) now? it is out already. Is this in case there are quick patches for this Dev version?
The 4.1 branch - what is that version? how can people get that version? will it be a beta only route? or will there be a dedicated channel (not dev, beta, stable) for it?

Thank you.

No new channels, 4.1 is the next thing after 4.0 on beta & stable.  It's 4.0 + some other stuff as opposed to a stabilization of the current trunk, which is what 5.0 will be.

We also build the beta/stable builds on a nightly basis, so the patch increments every day on those regardless of if any changes have occurred (to ensure we are cycling the builders).

As for 249 and 249s those are both active representing the 4.1 and 4.0 release respectively.

What is slated for the 4.1 branch, then?

Is this split (which we have not seen before) due to the Linux\Mac builds that need stabilization\feature completing efforts in order to reach stable (no obligations, though, of course)?

A little more information regarding the road map of this branch, please?

Windows, Mac, and Linux are all on track for 5.0, it just so happen that we are also doing a special 4.1 release for Windows.  So for a while, approximately a month, Mac and Linux will be out of sync with Windows (in terms of the branch they are cut from) on the beta channel.
