Hello,
We're looking to setup some boxes dedicated to using Google Hangouts (soon to be Meet). We decided to do this because of the high CPU load needed for video encoding and the poor quality that results without lots of available processor power. Looking online, we found that newer intel processors support QuickSync encoding of VP8/VP9, and we wanted to see how that performed. The hope was that we'd see a huge reduction in CPU usage and improvement in video quality.
However, after trying a few different systems with Braswell, Skylake, and Apollo Lake processors on differnet configurations of Windows 8/10 using the Intel Graphics drivers, nothing seems to make chrome include "VP8 encoding" in the "Video Acceleration Information" section of the chrome://gpu page.
Is QuickSync VP8 encoding supported in any os + chipset configuration? I can't seem to find any information about it.
