Hi there,
As expected with new release of Chrome (v37.xxx),  theJavascript showModalDialog() would be deprecated.

Based on http://www.chromium.org/administrators/policy-list-3 , on order to enable for a limited time this method, these registry settings are required :

Data type:
List of strings
Windows registry location:
Software\Policies\Chromium\EnableDeprecatedWebPlatformFeatures

Example value:
Windows:
Software\Policies\Chromium\EnableDeprecatedWebPlatformFeatures\1 = "ShowModalDialog_EffectiveUntil20150430"

We tried these settings but we couldn't make it to work, even after rebooting the PCs. I really hope we are missing a setting somewhere or not doing it right.

Our application, which support thousands concurrent users will have a really huge impact.

Desperately I would appreciate any help,

Thanks a lot,
NOVASolutions.

Note that that registry path is configuring policy for Chromium, not for Google Chrome. If you're using Chrome then the correct path is Software\Policies\Google\Chrome\EnableDeprecatedWebPlatformFeatures.

Do you see that policy configured in chrome://policy? Does it have the right value or any status error reported?

Please avoid replying to chromium-dev, this list has many subscribers. Let's keep discussing in another thread.

We have same problem, too.

We have add below registry to ten more computers .
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Google\Chrome\EnableDeprecatedWebPlatformFeatures]
"1" = "ShowModalDialog_EffectiveUntil20150430"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's working on some computers  but also have few are not working.

And all windows xp are not working.

Thanks for any help.

Please don't post these inquiries to chromium-dev, use chromium...@chromium.org instead.

The first step to diagnose problems with policies is to check if they are listed in chrome://policy or not. Can you see them there?

Note that Chrome only loads policies from the registry on machines that are enrolled to an AD domain. Otherwise you'll have to configure the policies with the ADM or ADMX templates via the GPO editor.

See the notes at the top of http://www.chromium.org/administrators/policy-list-3 and the comments in https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=259236 for an extended discussion.

Hi has anyone found a solution to this?  I can't.

Didn't get anywhere with the ADM thing seen on other user groups, but don't have the policy admin thing (running Windows 8.1).

Would be grateful for some help!

Please read the earlier messages: don't post such questions to chromium-dev (use chromium-discuss).

Note that ADM policy is meant for use by system administrators and not by end users, and Chrome won't load policies (at least, not reliably) on consumer machines.
