Comment #14 on issue 407902 by
eri...@google.com: widevine cdm not
sorry you have had problems with this. There are a few things to check :
1. chrome://components should show "WidevineCDM" as version 1.4.5.671 for
the previous stable release (M37), or 1.4.6.703 for the current stable
release (M38).
--if you see "Component not updated" and you're version is one listed above
(not 0.0.0.0), you've got the most recent update & there's no additional
update.
--if you have 0.0.0.0 && still says "Component not updated", let us know.
that may be a separate bug.
2. chrome://plugins should show the "Widevine Content Decryption Module" as
enabled & not disabled.
if both of the above check out, and NFLX still isn't working, your issue
could be that your AntiVirus is blocking "widevinecdmadapter.dll"
or "widevinecdm.dll". We have seen a few cases where user AV software was
incorrectly flagging either of the 2 above dll's as "bad". In those cases,
checking your AV software for alerts/warnings for "widevinecdmadapter.dll"
or "widevinecdm.dll" and allowing or enabling/permitting these dll's to
load. these are the binaries that represent the Widevine content
decryption module & its adapter.
I've just installed the latest stable chrome x64 on my windows 8.1 system
from
http://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/browser/?platform=win64. I have
the CDM (1.4.6.703) downloaded & have been able to play Netflix movies.
to address individual comments above :
#10 : Yovav... I wonder if you are getting the wrong architecture? can you
check the ...WidevineCDM\1.4.6.703\_platform_specific directory and tell me
if the directory is win_x64? it should be if you've got 64bit browser.
#11 : shortgir... what issue do you see? can you tell me the results of 1)
& 2) above? your issue w/youtube videos though might be a separate bug
since YT doesn't use CDM for its free videos. Please file a separate bug
for that issue and we'll take a look!
#12 : mccart... you shouldn't need another update if you've got 1.4.6.703
CDM. Can you look at 1) & 2) and let us know if it's been disabled at
all? Then check to see if your antivirus might be blocking it.
#13 : ashleigh... your problem might be antivirus blocking it. do you have
an Antivirus suite on your computer that could be blocking this?
For those w/AV issues, can you check chrome://histograms about 2min after
you repro the issue on Netflix, and copy/paste what you see in the
histogram for "Plugin.PpapiPluginLoadErrorCode_widevinecdmadapter.dll" that
would help us. if you see 5, chances are it's an AntiVirus issue.
