Same bug for me (french keyboard, win7, Chrome 4.1.249.1030 beta (40990))
I used "Custom keyboard shortcuts" in the Gmail Labs to affect another key
for the
delete feature and it works fine

Hi guys is there any development about this problem? Keyboard shortcuts #

To date, the same is happenning to me in an spanish keyboard, Windows XP as
OS and browsers Chrome (Version 12.0.742.91) and Firefox (4.0.1) as well,
but "?" does work in both.

This problem has been signaled over 2 years ago. I'm sure the developers
don't care about it and that it won't be solved any time soon.

That's a silly answer. It's related to the localization of the OS, not the
keyboard, thus a bug inside the browser that doesn't manage it correctly.

Doesn't work in Chrome 17, IE9 and Safari 5.1.4 on Windows 7 64bit and

A workaround I use with french keyboard on WinXP :
- activate the "Custom keyboard shortcuts" Lab in the settings
- on the new "Keyboard shortcuts" tab in your settings, search for "Move to
trash" and enter the caracter you want to map(" on the french keyboard)

@acoll..., this workaround doesn't seem to work for Alt Gr keys, e.g. the
original # in QWERTY keyboards is Alt Gr + 3. Another example, I couldn't
get the Del key to work, too.

@halil, yeah same for me but i just mapped the 3 key without the Alt Gr (so
there is a " in the keyboard shortcut textbox).
Finally I prefer that way because it works fine (ie does not delete a mail
while you are typping " in your mail ;) and it's quicker than Alt Gr + 3

Hello,

I'm french, and we are a new gapps big customer.
The big problem is that all shortcuts aren't localized.
On an azerty keyboard, some shortcuts need the user of "Alt Gr" key. So all
these shortcuts don't works on gmail. This is a big problem for corporate
company who migrate from lotus or other mail system.

It's really annoying that a 6 years-old bug hasn't been fixed yet. It

I came around this issue having the same problem in Inbox. It seems to be
lying around for almost 6 years. Don't tell me no one is able to fix this
problem?

I think the problem is with non-English (qwerty) keyboard layouts
I'm using Belgian (azerty) keyboards, and it only works in Firefox.
When switching the system to use English (qwerty) keyboard layout, it does
work. Everywhere.
So I don't know if it's problem in the browser or in Gmail/Inbox

My main system:
Windows 8.1
Belgian (azerty) keyboard layout
Chrome 43: doesn't work
Firefox 39: works
Internet Explorer 11: doesn't work

having used shortcuts all the time, it really pissed me when a few days
back I realised that only this 'delete' shortcut is not working. and bumped
into this thread and was about to 'report an issue' from chrome itself.
I just realised that I had changed the layout of KEYBOARD to British (when
I tried entering # symbol it typed £ !)
and I feel like a fool now. Slightly wiser.

I believe the problem with this issue is that the level3 shifter on the
french/spanish keyboard shows up as having ALT depressed on Windows.

I'm wondering if the IsAltPressed() in win_util.cc is actually correct.

#59 — You may be right. This seems it would yield altKey=true for AltGr,
which I think should not be the case (it is not the case on ChromeOS, where
the French 'AltGr'+'Digit3'↦'#' combination *does* trigger the gmail
