I just had the same exact problem tonight.

Playing a song with internal speakers or headphones plugged into headphone
jack works fine. Plugged headphones into DAC and the DAC into the USB port.
The Chromebook selected the DAC but I get no sound out of the headphones
now.

I have the Samsung Chromebook model XE303C12
Chrome version: 35.0.1916.155
Platform: 5712.88.0 (Official Build) stable-channel daisy
Firmware Google_Snow.2695.1170.0

My DAC is a NAD D1050

I have the same issue with a Samsung chromebook and my Cambridge Audio
Stream Magic 6 DAC. There is no sound when connected to either USB port on
the Chromebook. The Chromebook can see the DAC and I can select it as an
output device but no sound....

My DAC is the Cambridge Audio Stream Magic 6 with the latest firmware
update (it did not work with the earlier firmware either).

I am also trying to use the Fiio X5 as a USB DAC. The chromebook, C720P,
can see the x5 and i can select it as an output device but there is no
sound. This DAC is supposed to work natively with linux but i think
crouton, which i also use, runs sound through the chromeos side. (?) Any
improvements in this would improve my listening experience. Thanks!

Just upgraded to latest chrome os
Version 39.0.2171.85
Platform 6310.48.0 (Official Build) stable-channel daisy
Firmware Google_Snow.2695.117.0

Still no sound out of DAC. I do not think this is a bit rate issue. The
DAC copes with 16 bit files from other sources.

As before, the DAC is a Cambridge Audio Stream Magic 6 with the latest
firmware.

and select 'USB Audio In' on the Oppo Digital unit, my Chromebook
shows 'OPPO USB Deivce: USB Audio 2.0 (USB) but NO sound comes out of the

I've got support for 24 and 32 bit samples landed now. It didn't make R40
though.

I also haven't added support for byte-packed 24 bit audio, so some amps
still won't work (like the dragonfly).

can this support for byte-packed 24 bit audio be supported soon? Currently

I'm confirming no sound from Chrome using an external dac. Using a Mac,
and adjusted the rate from 44Khz all the way up to 384khz and Chrome goes
silent above 192khz. It works fine on bit rates 192khz and below. All
other applications and browsers work fine up to the maximum rate of
384khz. The bug is in chrome.

Success!!!

Thanks very much - it's taken quite a while to get here, but at last it

Still patiently waiting for my Dragonfly USB DAC to be supported. As of
45.0.2454.15 still nothing :(

Any update as to when we can expect this DAC to be supported?

As far as the list of non-working ones it seems the smaller list would be
ones that do work. Can this be provided?

IFI micro idsd + Chrome 47.0.2526.27 beta + MacOs 10.9.5. Temporary
Solution is to lower the sample rate from 384000hz to 192000hz.
A fix for this issue would be preferred since Chrome is the only
application that has problems with USB - DACs.

If i drop the format from 768KHz, 2Ch - 32bit to 192KHz, 2Ch -32bit the USB
DAC processes the sound from Chrome, but that not the same case for firefox
or Safari they both work with the 1st configuration. Not sure why but those
were my findings.

Same issue as reported. When playing sound through chrome (youtube, google

The ifi works fine with playback through safari and firefox.
