New issue 100502 by ajgonza...@gmail.com: Printers are missing
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=100502
Chrome Version : 16.0.904.0
OS Version: 6.1 (Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2)
URLs (if applicable) : any URL
Other browsers tested:
Add OK or FAIL after other browsers where you have tested this issue:
Safari 5: not installed
Firefox 4.x: OK
IE 7/8/9: OK
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Right-click, Print...; or Wrench, Print...; or Ctrl+P
2.
3.
What is the expected result?
I expect all of my printers to show up in the Destination box.
What happens instead?
Only "Print to PDF", "Print with Google Cloud Print", and "Manage
Printers..." are in the Destination box. "Print to PDF" is the default
printer, and the print preview states "This printer is not available or not
installed correctly. Check your printer or try selecting another printer."
If I choose "Print with Google Cloud Print" and then go back to "Print to
PDF", it will let me print to a PDF.
If I choose "Manage Printers...", my Printers folder pops up and shows all
of my installed printers.
If I choose "Print using system dialog", a dialog box pops up and says "The
selected printer is not available or not installed correctly. Check your
printer or try selecting another printer." When I close that one, another
one pops up and says "Something went wrong when trying to print. Please
check your printer and try again."
Please provide any additional information below. Attach a screenshot if
possible.
I tried uninstalling and re-installing Chrome, but that didn't fix this
issue.
UserAgentString: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64) AppleWebKit/535.7
(KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/16.0.904.0 Safari/535.7

Yes, I get an error dialog when I pres ctrl+shift+p.
Changing the default printer doesn't seem to have any effect, but now I
seem to be having a new issue altogether. Selecting a different printer in
the Destination box now causes an Aw Snap page on the page I was trying to
print. Please see attached.

Even after enabling crash reporting, I'm not seeing any crash reports,
either in chrome://crashes or in Event Viewer. I tried downloading
windbg.exe but msdn is down for maintenance from 5 p.m. last night until 6
p.m. tonight. I'll try it again tomorrow night.
The first two attached screenshots are of the error dialog when I hit
ctrl+shift+p. I don't get the same error in any other apps. The third
screenshot is the print dialog working correctly in Notepad.

We've only got this one laptop at home. I use Chrome at work with no
problems, but I'm pretty sure it's the stable channel.
I tried reproducing the crash and now I've got a crash ID for you:
ab522e1274b4ce79
Okay, yeah I don't get that crash anymore. Is there any other information
you need from me regarding the other issue?
Sorry, that was accidentally posted from my wife's account.
I apologize for never following up on this. Is this still a problem?
Yes, this is still a problem. I'm on this version of Chrome now:
18.0.1025.45 beta-m
That's correct.
Done. I used the shortcut method to add the flag. It doesn't crash when I
press ctrl+shift+P. It opens up the print dialog box and shows all of my
installed printers. See attached screenshot.

Interesting, so on this computer, Google Chrome 18.x gives you an error,
but Chromium 19.x does not. Do you want to try installing Google Chrome
Canary [3] and see how it behaves?
