New issue 103359 by macamb...@google.com: "Sync Error - Please update you
sync passphrase" after chrome update in a 2-phase auth. setup.
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=103359

Chrome Version : 16.0.912.21
OS Version: Linux, 2.6.38.8, x86_64
URLs (if applicable) :
Other browsers tested:
Chrome 15 on Mac OS: OK

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. I don't know how to reproduce this problem.

Well, here is the thing. I keep separate profiles for two google accounts:
business and personal. I started [a chrome instance for] both my business
and my personal profile yesterday and both are showing "Sync Error" in the
Bookmarks Bar with a tooltip "Please update your chrome passphrase".

This is only happening in my Linux box. I might have messed up my business
account sync setup but I left my personal profile untouched -- so there is
no reason for this error to be presented for this profile as well unless
something changed in chrome from last week to today, when it was
(re)started. :(

It might be interesting to say that I have 2-phase authentication enabled
for both accounts and have setup a Application Specific Password (ASP) for
chrome sync for both of them. Password sync is NOT enabled for my personal
account but, IIRC, it is for my business account.

Bellow you will find the result of about sync for my personal account:

Error Description

So, this issue is about a Sync error. There are additional UI bugs related
to this sync bug that I will state here just for the sake of completeness.
After clicking in bookmarks "Sync Error" I was redirected to a "Sign in and
Sync" window that just won't accept any new application specific password
(ASP) I enter and just displays a spinning icon forever. So, you got a bug
right there: if sign in isn't the problem, you shouldn't display a "Sign
in" window. Second, resting in an endless loop is a sign that something
isn't right -- a timeout would be better here.

Third, if the only issue is the passphrase, point the user to the "input
passphrase" input box in the advanced sync preferences.

Finally: what should I do? :) Since I'm using ASP/2-factor auth., I just
can't know what my original ASP was. Thinking the whole issue was related
to a sign in issue (and not passphrase) I disconnected and now restarted
chorme syncing for my business account -- what should just messed up my
passphrase settings a little bit more.

Please provide any additional information below. Attach a screenshot if
possible.

Can you try downloading a dev channel build and seeing if this is still a
problem?

Great, glad to hear it! Marking as wontfix then, as I believe this is
covered by bug 99875 (wherein we wrongly trigger a passphrase error, now
fixed) and bug 103628 (wherein we could get into an infinite spin when you
click the passphrase error link).

Please let me know if you run into this again.

dstrobel: If you're seeing this, please open a new bug with repro steps,
information about what version of cros you're running (from about:version)
and your about:sync information.
