On Chrome 32.0.1700.76 / 34.0.1789.0-Canary/ Win7
Able to see the "Two-sided" option on the following printer :
AFICIO MP C3501, Ricoh Aficio MP C3500 PS,

Not able to see the option on "HP PhotoSmart 8700" printer.

I have an HP Photosmart 5520 and the same thing happened to me. There used
to be a "double-sided" checkbox in the options but it's no longer there.
Very frustrating to have a printer capable of it, but no option to have it
done using my chromebook.

We have a HP Photosmart 7525, when using Google Crome, we are unable to
print 2-sided. *this is both on a PC and on MACbook Pro... On the HP PC
2-sided does Not show in the Option area of print box and on the MAC the
two-sided option is available and yes it is "checked", however it still
prints 1-sided. We would very much like to save paper too, Please fix the
issue. Note- we are able to print 2-sided using Explorer.

This issue is only about Windows. For Mac, you can search or create another
one.
This is problem of HP driver. Unfortunately I see no solution except just
clicking "Print Using System Dialog".

I had this exact problem and here how i fixed it:

1. Go to "Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers"
2. Click on the printer you're trying to "Duplex print" from
3. Click on "Customize your printer".
4. Click "Change Properties".
5. Navigate to the "Device Settings" tab.
6. Under "Installable Optins", make sure that "Duplex Unit" is set
to "Installed". It should look like this "---Duplex Unit: Installed".
7. Now press "Apply" and it should be working.
