This posting on ubuntu:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/575266/usb-to-ethernet-adaptor
"I have a Gigaware USB to Ethernet dongle, ubuntu 14.10, and a lenovo miix
2 11.6 slate. I would be happy if it showed up in ifconfig as an eth0
device but plugging it in does nothing.

Suggests that even if we "flip" this device with usb_modeswitch
to "ethernet mode", we won't have a linux device driver that can talk to it
(dm9601 currently only talks to 0x9700, not 0x9702).
One could try adding 0x9702 to dm9601 (dynamically via /sys) to see if
dm9601 works, but it's not worth my time.
