This is a reproducable bug for me that has persisted through multiple
versions of
chrome over the past year. Tell me how to give you a crash log and I'll
happily
provide.

Same problem here, experiencing it for ~a year (since starting to use
Chrome)
Using 4.1.249.1025 on XP/SP3.
As described here and in other places, steps to reproduce:
1. Click link to a file download
2. In select folder dialog, create a new folder for the file
3. Chrome crashes, whether file was saved in new folder, previously
existing folder,
or not saved at all (Cancel)
Since many people are experiencing this (extremely annoying) problem and
still decide
to stick with Chrome, I think this issue deserves to be moved out of 'wont
fix'...
Filed crash reports several times over the past months, but the problem
still hasn't
made it to the 'known issues' page. Why?
Let me know if more sys info is needed.

Whoa. It also just crashed while I was trying to attach the crash report
(empty
anyways). Different issue though.

I am also having this problem on WinXP, Google Chrome 4.1.249.1030.
Chromium Team: I've looked for a Crash report but one is not generated for
this. There is
also nothing in the windows error log for Chrome (in fact Chrome is not
even listed as one of
the "Filter" options). Chrome completely loses it though - it loses the
Chrome styled min-max-
exit buttons and everything. I do not have this problem on my Win7 laptop.
My steps:
1. Click download link
2. Click save on file dialog (new folder or not)
3. Chrome crashes
This happens for me 95-100% of the time. Again, I have never found
anything in my
"CrashReports" folder.
Why is this getting ignored??

One more here, mine is... a little lighter, it seems.
Every now and then, Chrome freezes for a couple minutes when I download
anything. Click on any download link, choose folder to download to... and
it freezes. If I leave Chrome alone and don't try to do anything, after a
few minutes the file has been downloaded (or has started downlading, if
it's big), and Chrome resumes back to normality. If I try to do anything,
even click where there's no link, Chrome crashes.

I remember this being a problem that followed Chrome since I began using it.

What steps will reproduce the problem? (Same as previously posted, see
below.)
1. Click link to a file download
2. In select folder dialog, create a new folder for the file and click ok
3. Chrome then crashes after a brief pause
(Note: Chrome does not appear to crash if I download a file to an EXISTING
folder, at least not in the several instances I tested for this symptom.)

Expected result: successful download of a file

Chrome freezes and stays frozen
Hello , my fellow Google Chrome users. I realize this is an old subject,
but obviously it is still a current issue. This is why I am posting the
solution which fixed this problem for me. This may or may not fix it for
you. My problem ended up being caused by a piece of software I had
downloaded and installed. Your problem may be caused by a different piece
of software, or may be an entirely different issue altogether.
The specific software that broke Google Chrome for me was "Folder Size".
I followed the following steps to fix the problem:
I submitted a Windows Error Reporting report, and the resulting links took
me to Google Chrome Errors and Crashes.
http://support.google.com/chrome/bin/topic.py?hl=en&topic=21605
From there I clicked on "Software that crashes Google Chrome", which took
me here:
http://support.google.com/chrome/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=185112&topic=21605&ctx=topic
At the last link above is a list of software that causes Google Chrome to
crash or freeze. On this list I recognized "Folder Size", software which I
had previously installed. I had installed "Folder Size" along with many
others around that same time, which made it a tougher job to pinpoint which
piece of software had caused Chrome to crash. (This is why it is a very
good idea NOT to install more than one or two different pieces of software
at the same time, this way, if a problem crops up soon after the
installation, chances are good the cause is that specific software that you
recently installed.)
Clicking on that link took me to a page with a link to the fix for "Folder
Size". (I had to download the "fix", and then in a command prompt window
type in the command to install that particular piece of software. (In a
command prompt window I navigated to the folder I had installed the
software "fix"(FolderSize_Fix_for_Google_Chrome.sdb), then typed
in "sdbinst FolderSize_Fix_for_Google_Chrome.sdb). See link below:
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=708425&aid=2900504&group_id=127365
This fixed this issue for me. However, your issue may be caused by
different software, or may be something entirely different.
So, if this problem occurs again for me, these are the steps I would follow:
1.) I would go to the link "Software that crashes Google Chrome", see below:
http://support.google.com/chrome/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=185112&topic=21605&ctx=topic
and search this list for software I recognized. If found, I would then
follow the resulting link to the instructions to fix the issue.
2.) If #1 doesn't work, I would go to the "Google Chrome Errors and
Crashes" page:
http://support.google.com/chrome/bin/topic.py?hl=en&topic=21605 for other
solutions.
3.) If #1 or #2 doesn't work, I would search the internet for other
solutions.
One more thing you may want to try, either before or after following the
above steps:
See if reverting to a Restore Point taken previous to the time Google
Chrome started crashing, using System Restore, will fix your particular
issue.(This process does not cause you to lose recent work, such as saved
documents or e-mail, and is completely reversible. This is stated on the
System Restore page.)
(I attempted reverting to a Restore point myself, however, this did not
work for me, since the restore process failed for me. I will need to
trouble-shoot this further, however, I suspect it may have something to do
with another software application that I am currently using. But, this may
work for you!)
I hope this helps some of you. If so(or even if not), please come back and
let others know your experience. Maybe together we can help fix this issue
permanently. Thanks! And good luck!
