New issue 156035 by mcromp...@gmail.com: Address bar text input with HTC
Trace Keyboard fails
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=156035

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Use a HTC One X phone with the following config "Settings --> Language
and Keyboard --> HTC Sense Input --> Trace Keyboard" = On
2. Open Chrome, click in the omnibox, and start swiping a word.

What is the expected behavior?
The word I swipe is the word in the omnibox.

What went wrong?
The URL auto-completes from first letter you hit as part of the swipe, then
the rest of the swipe is added. In the attached example I swiped test. It
auto-completed twitter then put test at the start of the word.

This makes it unusable to use the omnibox to enter URLs or to search for
anything.

Did this work before? N/A

Chrome version: 18.0.1025308 Channel: stable
OS Version: Android 4.0.4; HTC One X Build/IMM76D

The omnibox should wait for the swipe to finish before auto-completing.

Hi, same here..been driving me nuts to the point of hunting this out to add
my support. HTC one x - HTC sense input, you can only type individual
letters in the chrome omni search...trace input matches too early meaning
you have to delete out everything that follows....

Same problem here. It makes me wonder if they don't want to give the option
to remove AutoComplete because it's another way to sell ads.

I've contacted HTC and their official response is to use another browser
other than Chrome.

Same problem with Chrome 27 on a brand new HTC One running Android 4.1.1

Major issue for me that is preventing me from switching from the stock
Android browser.

The most recent update (28.0.1500.64) appears to have fixed this problem —
I can now swipe words in the omnibox without autocomplete interfering.

Can others who've updated confirm?

Unfortunately you're both right. Restarted the phone and the problem has
returned. Apologies for the false alarm.

I'm on an HTC One for At&t and have this same issue with the sense trace
keyboard and chrome auto completing phrases and addresses in the omnibox.
Swiftkey does not have this issue so I wonder if it's really more of
something HTC needs to look into. In any event it's super annoying and I'm
sure Google could do something to help in the meantime like five three
option to turn off auto complete.

Comment #14 - why would HTC fix it? which other apps does this happen in?

If it were system wide then I agree HTC should fix it... but as far as I
know, it only happens in Chrome.

And for Google, why would they fix it? It only happens with HTC Trace. It's
a lose-lose situation.
