New issue 161638 by evan.shu...@gmail.com: HTML5 videos won't play in
Coursera
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=161638

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.2; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.19 (KHTML,
like Gecko) Chrome/25.0.1323.1 Safari/537.19

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Browse to https://class.coursera.org/algo-2012-002/lecture/index (free
account required to signup and access this class).
2. Launch any of the videos on the page using the default (HTML5) browser.
After a few seconds, the video stops.
3. Using <name> > Course Preferences in the top right, switch to Flash
videos and there is no problem watching the videos.

What is the expected behavior?
HTML5 videos can be played back.

What went wrong?
A few seconds of the HTML5 video plays, and then the video freezes.

Example URL:
https://class.coursera.org/algo-2012-002/lecture/index

Does it occur on multiple sites: Yes

Is it a problem playing media? Yes

Is it a problem with a plugin? No

Did this work before? Yes It worked circa 21. I've always been on the dev
channel.

Does this work in other browsers? Yes IE10

Chrome version: 25.0.1323.1 Channel: dev
OS Version: 6.2 (Windows 8)

IE10 desktop plays back both Flash and HTML5 videos. This is especially
painful because HTML5 videos can have the speed increased above 1.00x,
while I can't speed through Flash videos.

Humph! I guess it is Win8-related. It doesn't work on my Win8 x64 RP PC
(haven't checked for a couple Chrome dev releases), but Win7 x64 and WinXP
SP3 (both with 25.0.1337.0) play it fine.

I'll install Canary on my Win8 PC and give it a go tonight.

Yes, I'm late to the party. Eventually I'll get things squared away and
upgrade to the released version of Win8.

I just verified that it still doesn't work with 25.0.1337.0 in the RP.

This is fixed for me (still running Win8 RP) with Chrome 25.0.1359.3 dev-m.
See issue 153136.

Version 27.0.1453.15 beta, continuing to see frequent failures to play.
video load bar starts preloading and eventually stops. video itself never
starts playing. can click into the preload area for a snapshot, but still
unable to play. video needs to be reloaded multiple times before it'll
play. some videos take 30+ reloads before playing. (click previous/next
to alternate and attempt reloading)

Also fails with Chromium version 27.0.1453.6 under Ubuntu. Works with
Firefox on the same machine.

In the Javascript console I get this:

The page at https://class.coursera.org/bigdata-002/lecture/3 displayed
insecure content from
http://d396qusza40orc.cloudfront.net/bigdata/recoded_videos%2F1-1-basic-indexing-v2%20%5Bd7bcb922%5D%20.mp4.

If I try to open that MP4 URL directly with Chrome it fails to play, but
the same URL works when played back with mplayer.

It is reproducible on chrome on mac when you leave the video unplayed for
two minutes and then it plays for couple of seconds then it gets freezed.
