New issue 181386 by
danny.du...@gmail.com: Pepper Flash player much higher
CPU usage
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=181386
UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_8_2)
AppleWebKit/537.22 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/25.0.1364.160 Safari/537.22
Example URL:
http://www.youtube.com/
Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Open Activity Monitor
2. Play video in HD on youtube. Record CPU usage by pepper flash player
3. Play same video in HD in Safari. Record CPU usage by Adobe Flash player
What is the expected behavior?
CPU used by Pepper will be significantly higher (on my PC around 30%) than
the native Adobe Player (around 9%).
What went wrong?
As above - Pepper is using 3x more CPU. And that eats up battery...
Did this work before? N/A
Is it a problem with Flash or HTML5? Flash
Does this work in other browsers? Yes Safari 6.0.2
Chrome version: 25.0.1364.160 Channel: stable
OS Version: OS X 10.8.2
I tried to disable Pepper player to use native flash player, however result
is that flash is no longer hi-dpi (or retina, I'm using Retina mac). Native
flash player on Safari plays video using full physical resolution machine.
In Chrome however, after disabling pepper, flash displays scaled down and
blurry (non-retina).
