The easiest fix I found (and simplest for those who have fears of messing
in the C: drive) was to locate the chrome icon in the lower right-hand
taskbar (by the clock for windows users - you may need to click to expand
more icons or open chrome to update the icons in the taskbar). Once you
locate the icon, right-click and uncheck "allow chrome to run in the
background". Now reopen your chrome browser. Things should be working
smoothly from there! Hope this helps those who are panicking!

Bug seems still to be present in v32.0.1700.102m .... The workaround above
resolved the issue.

Comment #4 on issue 231685 by wyd...@gmail.com: Grey screen, untitled tab,
Ok, suspect issue 395861 holds the answer --disable-gpu works. Although
it's not a black screen we're getting, as suggested by 395861 (it's grey as
per this issue). It is however a pair of Matrox display adapters we're
using, hooked up to 10 screens.

395861 looks to be fixed (worked around) in M36 and M37 and we know it's
working in Canary so I'm assuming since we're running v36 already this will
be pushed in a later intermediate M36 update due soon, but if not we'll get
it in M37?

Any idea what this gray screen with blue X is when I open Chrome? I have
run malware and Avast. I don't get this screen every time I open Chrome,
but I do get it a majority of the time.

I went to manage Google extensions, and, under Grammarly, enabled "Allow
access to file URLs". This took care of the mysterious blue X, and I am
still able to use Grammarly. Hope this helps.

Also, this was on my chromebook.

Comment #9 on issue 231685 by a...@chromium.org: Grey screen, untitled tab,
Unable to reproduce this on the latest stable(46.0.2490.71) on Windows-7 on
adding Grammarly extension as well.

Closing this issue as this is very old issue and no update on this for long.

Would request the users to file a new issue with detailed information, if
any such issue still happens on the latest stable as well.
