Comment #5 on issue 309459 by dunn.j...@gmail.com: Bose Companion 5 USB
All,

Was thinking about replacing a dying, ancient Mac Mini that's my "media
center" with a Chromebox, and wanted to see if it would work with the Bose
Companion 5. Apparently not. Just for grins, I tried this with one of my
Chromebooks, and no love:

Google Chrome 35.0.1916.82 (Official Build 266704) beta
Platform 5712.41.0 (Official Build) beta-channel parrot

Looks like this is a niche issue ;-)

Comment #12 on issue 309459 by chin...@chromium.org: Bose Companion 5 USB
I have a BOSE Companion 5 with me now.

When it's plugged I could see the "Bose USB Audio" device and selected for
output, but could not hear audio when playing youtube videos.

I see there are several "cannot get freq at ep 0x1" in dmesg output, not
sure it's related.

OK, the PCM volume is set to 0, after unmuting it by using alsamixer, I can
hear nice audio now :)

Comment #16 on issue 309459 by chin...@chromium.org: Bose Companion 5 USB
More test result on link ToT:

I found that the CRAS node volume and the device's PCM volume has
non-linear relationship.

When the node volume is 100 (max), PCM volume is 100
When the node volume is 96 (one tick less than max), PCM volume is 36
For rest of the node volume, PCM volume is 0

Initially the CRAS node volume is set to 75 so the PCM is 0 and no audio
could be heard.

EApenkin, turn the volume to max might be a quick work-around, could you
try if that works for you?

Audio doesn't work in Chrome OS
https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=309459

The device is actually reporting correct volume range: min -312 max 0
The problem is it's a narrow range and cras by default generates a 50dB
simple step volume curve.
I think we should take the device's range into consideration and I'm
preparing a CL for it.

Audio doesn't work in Chrome OS
https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=309459

not sure if this adds anything helfpul, but I had the same issue. Plug it
in, doesn't work.

After reading this thread I surmised quick fix = set chromebook volume to
max and control volume with the bose circle thing.

If I lower pc volume even by one tick, the volume goes down significantly.

So conclusion: Set chromebook volume to max, use bose for volume control.
No other alterations needed.
