I'm having this issue as well. My downloads do not seem to go higher than
100KB/s. IE
and FF seem to get up to 800KB/s.

I am downloading at close to 0Kb/s with Chrome while Firefox goes at full
speed. It
actually gives me 4 days until it finishes downloading an mp3. Unacceptable.

Similar issue with Chrome 5.0.342.8 (Windows Vista). Issue just appeared
in the
last day. Download speeds are consistently below 1 kB/s. Browsing speeds
do not
seem affected. Have tried reinstalling Chrome, with no effect.

Download speeds with Firefox and IE have not slowed.

Screenshot of a very slow download is attached. URL is removed.

Having the same problem with all Google Chrome versions. First download
starts at
normal speed and then gradually drops to about 0 B/s. Download has to be
cancelled and
restarted in order to download at full speed again...

Same problem. File starts downloading at normal speed and then drops down
to a near
stop. Having trouble installing Google Chrome extensions with this bug.
Gave me 2
days left just to download an mp3 file.

Thing is, the internet browsing is still just as fast as it ever was, so it
must be a
bug in Google Chrome and the way handles downloads.

I'm experiencing the same thing. If I use Chrome the download is slow. If
I use IE
it is very fast. Same site - same link, etc.

This honestly stops me from using Chrome if I know I may want to download
something
from the site. I'm suprised Google has let this go on so long without a
fix.

I'm having this issue with 5.0.375.125 beta (win7) as well. Not only is the
download really slow, my computer grinds to a halt and other programs
freeze until the download finally finishes.

When I download with IE there are no problems.

rvbeppler's disable DNS pre-fetching fixed this for me. If this is a global
bug, you should remove the pre-fetching option until you fix this serious
bug.

This may answer a few questions - I too experience excruciatingly slow
downloads in Chrome.

This is a workaround :-

I found that every time I download a file - it is really slow but once you
cancel it and restart the download it resumes at a 'normal' pace. By
normal - I mean at a speed that is reasonable/common on your computer and
internet connection.

I find that I have do this for 100% of the files I download using Chrome.

Yea this is ridiculous... This issue has been known for AT LEAST a year and
a half without so much of a "we're working on it".. it's really just
pathetic.. fix this crap and maybe more people would use Google chrome.. on
another note i have heard Google Chrome has some security issues as to
stealing peoples information and other things...that was the main reason i
stopped using it.. FireFox is a good browser i just use chrome when im in
the mood for something different and i dont have to download anything.. I
mean i got cable modem downloading at dial up speeds... pathetic

Not only is it Google Chrome having this problem...but for my computer its
just Firefox version 3.6.6 (or just Firefox period). It starts off at about
200kb/s then goes straight down to where its 3kb/s or even 0kb/s. After
that it just freezes...download doesn't do anything and stops. Yet my
computer still works fine. I have Windows XP. I also just put on the latest
updates that we're recommended for my OS. I also tried downloading things
multiple times and every single time they never finish downloading and just
stop / freeze. Really makes it frustrating for me.

I'm now running 8.0.552.200 beta, but the issue has been there since the
very first release of Chrome. Downloads are always way slower than with any
other browser.

I can also reproduce the problem with downloads starting more or less fast
but then slowing down.

Please fix this

Under 4KB/sec
IE and other browsers load fast. I have a 15Mbit connection its definitly
the browser. In chrome I try download a file and it transfers at 3kb/sec,
cancel and switch to IE and boom good speeds are 500kb/sec.

Chrome downloads files with 30 kbits/s, while IE9 downloads it with 300
kbits/s from the same server in the same time.

It's been years since people started having this issue with
Chrome/Chromium, and it's still affecting the majority of Chrome users. I
always use IE for downloading files, as it tends to download near my actual
Internet connection speed. I have a 768KB/s connection, and Chrome
downloads at about 60, and commonly less. Browsing web pages goes at a
decent speed, though.

Seriously, how long can you guys keep this going? If it weren't for the
standards support, I'd switch back to IE or Firefox in a heartbeat.

(this problem has only started occurring recently) when downloading files

This issue JUST started to afect my mother's laptop. Uninstalling and
reinstalling does nothing. IE and Firefox will test with speedtest.net at
23.4mbps and Chrome tests at 0.24mbps, a HUGE difference. Will take me 3
hours to download a 72MB file (frequently canceling itself after about
12MB) and it takes only 1.2 minutes on IE. There is no proxy setup or
anything else I can find. The suggested Issue 104335 doesn't appear to be
of value to my issue, downloads start immediately but even web pages load
slower. Other machines on the network do not have this issue, even an
identical laptop.

what's your mother's chrome version and OS?

I have similar problem.
If cant download this iso with crome. (31.0.1650.63 m)
http://ftp.tku.edu.tw/Linux/LinuxMint/linuxmint-iso/stable/8/LinuxMint-8-LXDE.iso
But it works fine with fire fox. (26.0)
In crome download speed starts fine 1000 kb/s but then after 30 Mb drops
down to 100kb/s . After some time speed drops to 0. If I start another
download work in parallel, speed busts up for fey seconds and then also
drop down.

In Firefox I downloaded file successfully without any speed drops (1000
kb/s)
Probably problem is in crome "parallel processes management system".
Because download processes of cromium have lower priority of execution.
