New issue 64062 by lucasdet...@gmail.com: Create an option to
disable ".crdownload" extension, that is currently added to ongoing
downloads.
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=64062
Chrome Version : 7.0.517.41
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Download some big file.
2. Take a look on the filename while downloading (it has a ".crdownload"
extension).
What is the expected result?
Don't add the ".crdownload" extension automatically to ongoing downloaded
files...
What happens instead?
Chrome always add this extension to ongoing downloads.... There sould be an
option to disable the append of this extension to ongoing downloads.
Please provide any additional information below. Attach a screenshot if
possible.
Some kind of downloaded files like avi videos as zip files has support to
read his content before the completion of the download. This is very cool,
but chrome is adding this ".crdownload" extension and the file manager is
unable to discover the associated program that open this file.
This became worst when downloading multipart videos (that VLC automatically
handle):
video.avi.001, video.avi.002, video.avi.003
Chrome is adding the .crdownload extension:
video.avi.001.crdownload,
video.avi.002.crdownload,
video.avi.003.crdownload
...and now VLC cannot handle it.

What I meant was we should make this option available on a
per-file-type basis, not globally. That way you can immediately open
the file types that support it, while leaving the others alone.
ah, that makes more sense. I was worried that it'd be closed as "yeah, we
don't append .crdownload onto .mpg files". Whereas I've always hated the
behaviour and dream of the old behaviour of firefox er, very old :-) Thanks
Sometime after reporting this bug I discovered that on Linux I can rename
the .crdownload file while downloading, and chrome will continue
downloading it without problem... but still would like to have the option
to disable this behavior in chrome.

You can open the .crfiles atleast with vlc and watch them. But of course
thats no real fix. And at the end if the download finishes while watching,
the file is not getting renamed.
