New issue 537191 by SteveW...@gmail.com: Chrome crashes Cinnamon unless I
turn of GPU support
https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=537191

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like
Gecko) Chrome/45.0.2454.101 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Open chrome
2. Open Inbox
3. Open any link in an email (it crashes randomly also, but this greatly
increases the chances)

What is the expected behavior?
Chrome should work normally and cinnamon shouldn't crash along with it.

What went wrong?
The browser closes and cinnamon crashes, asking me if I want to restart
cinnamon. If I click yes, it tries to restart cinnamon and fails. I have to
reboot before cinnamon will work again. Closing chrome after the crash
doesn't fix anything.

Crashed report ID: No

How much crashed? Whole browser

Is it a problem with a plugin? No

Did this work before? N/A

Chrome version: 45.0.2454.101 Channel: stable
OS Version: Mint 17.2 32-bit, Cinnamon 2.6.13
Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 19.0 r0

If I use the flag --disable-gpu, this never happens. If I do not use that
flag, it crashes within minutes, sometimes seconds. It never makes it more
than 30 minutes.

Comment #1 on issue 537191 by tkonch...@chromium.org: Chrome crashes
Cinnamon unless I turn of GPU support
https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=537191

Unable to repro the issue on Linux 14.04 with cinnamon window manager using
chrome version 45.0.2454.101 - No crash on opening a link in any mail in
inbox.

Could you please provide the crash ID(chrome://crashes) for further
investigation.

Comment #2 on issue 537191 by mcfal...@gmail.com: Chrome crashes Cinnamon
I've been having a similar issue with Mint 17.1. I've found that I only
ever get the crash when something is being downloaded and I try to switch
tabs, open a new tab or bring chrome up from the panel. Anything from video
streams, pdf files, or even steam games. It's not 100% but I get the crash
at least once a day when I'm trying to listen to music with youtube while
doing something anything else.

Comment #3 on issue 537191 by SteveW...@gmail.com: Chrome crashes Cinnamon
It doesn't log this as a crash. There is nothing under chrome://crashes
even though it has happened multiple times. I have crash reporting turned
on. Its not a huge deal, I just created a launcher that turns off GPU
support and it never crashes that way. I just thought you guys might want
to know. Glad to hear I'm not the only person having this issue with Linux
Mint 17.x.

SteveWin1@, we've seen some problems with virtual contexts and the Intel
mesa drivers. How easy is it for you to repro the crash?

Can you:

1. Download the most recent version from
https://download-chromium.appspot.com/
2. Verify that you can still reproduce the issue
3. Run it with the command line flag: --use_virtualized_gl_contexts=0
4. Check chrome://gpu/ and verify that use_virtualized_gl_contexts is *not*
listed under the workarounds
5. Try to reproduce the crash again

Let me know if it still happens.

THANKS!

Comment #5 on issue 537191 by hendr...@chromium.org: Chrome crashes
Cinnamon unless I turn of GPU support
https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=537191

Followup on #4

I disabled use_virtualized_gl_contexts on non-nvidia drivers in the latest
build of chromium, so here are new instructions (assumes you run with
non-nvidia drivers):

1. Please download a recent version from
https://download-chromium.appspot.com/
2. Run it and go to chrome://gpu, verify use_virtualized_gl_contexts is not
listed under "Driver Bug Workarounds"
3. Try to reproduce the problem

Let us know if you can still reproduce with use_virtualized_gl_contexts
missing. Thanks!

Comment #6 on issue 537191 by jorge.qu...@gmail.com: Chrome crashes
Cinnamon unless I turn of GPU support
https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=537191

My case is similar but it crashes randomly, however I can reproduce it at
will since whenever I open a video on youtube it crashes.
Also checked it does not crash with --disable-gpu flag.

chrome://crashes/ also empty (reporting Crash reporting is disabled. -
Crash reporting is not available in Chromium.)

Version 45.0.2454.101 Built on Ubuntu 14.04, running on LinuxMint 17.2
(64-bit)

I attach the file /sys/class/drm/card0/error hoping it can point in the
right direction for a fix.

I believe it's been happening since version 44, also happening in Chrome.

Thanks in advance

Comment #8 on issue 537191 by jorge.qu...@gmail.com: Chrome crashes

https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=537191

Tried running current version (45.0.2454.101) with
--use_virtualized_gl_contexts=0 and use_virtualized_gl_context is indeed
listed under the workarounds.
The crash happened again while running on that mode. Same thing... seconds
from starting to play a youtube video. By the way my distribution is also
Linux Mint 17.2

Also tried directly #5 but couldn't get past the running chrome part.
Downloaded the raw build, uncompressed the zip, cd'ed to the directory and
ran

./chrome

Any tips on how to get it working so I can try #5 fully?
Any files that might be useful to attach?

Thanks in advance

I won't have time to look at it.

Maybe Sunny could look when he gets back.

Hi Jorge, out of curiosity, could you try:
./chrome --no-sandbox --use-gl=egl --enable-transparent-visuals ?
