What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. open http://listen.rbc.cn/ ,firefox plays the mms stream, but
chromimu shows "Missing Plug-in" and no sound.
2. open directly "mms://cdnmms.cnr.cn/cnr001?
MzE5MTg0IzEjIzI5NjgwOQ==", firefox show dialog box for selecting player,
chromium makes a google search.
3. using chrome extention "Chrome Radio Player" to play Chrome Radio
Player, it shows "Sorry, could not find a media plugin", click "how do I fix
this" opens a tab, in the tab click "debug page" link, then click "Run
Tests", it shows:
Test
OK: VLC pLugin with mimetype "application/x-vlc-plugin" is available?
OK: WMP plugin with mimetype "application/x-mplayer2" is available?
Failed: WMP plugin with mimetype "application/x-ms-wmp" is available?
Failed: VLC plugin can be activated?
Failed: WMP plugin can be activated?
Failed: WMP (2) plugin can be activated?
Failed: Can auto select player?

What is the expected result?
1. expect work like firefox.
2. expect the extention "Chrome Radio Player" works well

What happens instead?

vlc plugin fails to work in chromium


Please provide any additional information below. Attach a screenshot if
possible.

Also having the same problem on Gentoo Linux amd64, chromium 6.0.472.63,
VLC 1.1.5. about:plugins shows the plugin and navigator.plugins has all the
relevant information but I see "Missing plug-in" any time I put in the
<embed> tag. Also works fine in firefox.

Just adding to the chorus and keeping it fresh: still doesn't work with
17.0.963.56 and VLC 1.1.13 on Gentoo 64-bit. If someone could report on
chromium version 18.x with vlc 2.x, that would be great.

Evan, if you had pointed that out at the time of comment #7 then we
probably wouldn't have continued to make noise about it! We are just
trying to be helpful (and highlight which bugs matter to us) when we point
out that a bug persists in the latest version.
If this bug is a specific instance of #38229, then why not close it and
mark it as a duplicate?
