UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like
Gecko) Chrome/37.0.2062.44 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Install google-chrome-beta
2. Icon is not properly mapped

What is the expected behavior?
I would expect there to be a Google Chrome icon as in past releases.

What went wrong?
There was/is no icon present. The icon is simply a 'missing icon' diamond
shape.

Did this work before? Yes It was working in 36

Chrome version: 37.0.2062.44 Channel: beta
OS Version:
Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 14.0 r0

I was able to "fix" the issue by locating my google-chrome-beta.desktop
file and making the following change:
110: Icon=google-chrome-beta
to
110: Icon=google-chrome.png

Alt+F, r, Enter and the icon loaded.

May be user data corrupted.

Does this also gets resolved by clearing all your userdata and
resinstalling the Chrome?

I was able to duplicate this issue on a clean install of Fedora 20 and the
current version of Chrome. I have attached a screenshot showing
the "missing" Chrome icon.

Latest version/update for the beta channel overwrote the .desktop file and
the icon is still broken.

google-chrome-beta.x86_64 0:37.0.2062.58-1

Also, changing line 110 to simply Icon=google-chrome works as well.
(leaving off the .png)

Same issue: Version 37.0.2062.68 beta (64-bit)

Unable to reproduce the issue on Ubuntu 12.04 Unity window manager with
both beta and dev versions.

Could you please provide The Linux flavour and Window manager details or
further debugging of the issue.

I am on Slackware. chrome-beta is installed to /opt/google/chrome-beta. I
did:

bash-4.3# cd /usr/share/icons/hicolor/
bash-4.3# for i in 16 22 24 32 48 64 128 256 ; do ln -s
/opt/google/chrome-beta/product_logo_$i.png
$i"x"$i/apps/google-chrome-beta.png ; done

This creates symlinks for icon files for different resolution.

no need to change /usr/share/applications/google-chrome-beta.desktop
