New issue 163509 by rohandhr...@gmail.com: Spell check not working when UK
English is selected
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=163509

Chrome Version : 24.0.1312.25
OS Version: 6.1 (Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2)
URLs (if applicable) : Any text box

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. In Chrome language settings, choose UK English for spellcheck

What is the expected result?
Red underline appears under any word that is spelled wrong.

What happens instead of that?
Spell check completely stops working: no words are highlighted, however
wrong they may be. Eg. color (which is wrong in UK English),
and "sdsdfdsfsfsdfs" (which is jibberish), both are unflagged.

Please provide any additional information below. Attach a screenshot if
possible.
Strangely, spell check works for US English! This is happening on the
latest beta. I haven't tried other languages.

UserAgentString: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.17
(KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/24.0.1312.25 Safari/537.17

Possibly a duplicate of Issue 162342

Would you mind toggling spell-check to "off" via the context menu and see
if that makes it work?

I don't see any option "off", all I see is "Spell checker options -> Check
spelling of text fields". Toggling that had no effect.

1. I have verified this issue with spell checking not working with the UK
dictionary selected. I checked turning the spell check to off and this did
not fix anything. Adding US English and selecting to use this for spell
checking worked with spell-checking enabled and then stopped working when
spell-checking was toggled it off.

2. I also verified spell checking did not work with Australian English.

3. Strangely when I then selected 'use this for spell checking' for UK
English again, the spell checking kept on working but using the US English
dictionary, even though going back into settings showed UK English as
selected for spell checking.

4. I then tried using Swedish for spell checking which worked as
expected. Then switching back to UK English the Swedish was still used for
spell checking untill I again selected US English.

rlp: Could this have to do with the updated UK bdict files?

This seems to be the issue:

GET: http://cache.pack.google.com/edgedl/chrome/dict/en-gb-2-5.bdic
HTTP Error 503

GET: http://cache.pack.google.com/edgedl/chrome/dict/en-gb-2-4.bdic
HTTP OK 200

This should be fixed now in Chrome 24 build. Could someone verify it?

Comment #14 on issue 163509 by rohandhr...@gmail.com: Spell check not
Not fixed in Version 24.0.1312.32 beta-m (I checked for updates, this is
the latest beta). Unless you were referring to a Google-internal version.
