New issue 73460 by phistuck: Embedded YouTube iFrame\Google Ad videos in
Google Reader sometimes play the wrong video
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=73460
Chrome Version : 7.X, 8.X, 9.X, 10.X and 11.0.672.0 canary build
URLs (if applicable) : www.google.com/reader
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Open posts that have YouTube videos embedded within them on Google
Reader.
What is the expected result?
The right videos will always play.
What happens instead?
After a while, or after opening some posts (with or without YouTube videos
embedded within them), a previous video will play, instead of the one that
is supposed to play.
Important notes -
- It happens a lot, but it is inconsistent.
- I tried to figure out whether it is a Flash issue (seems like it was
not), a Reader issue, a YouTube issue or a Chrome issue - but I did not get
so far. I went to Internet Explorer 8 and could not reproduce it, but then
I closed Google Reader and re-opened it within Chrome and I could not
reproduce it (because of the first note).
- I suspect that it has been there ever since the initial beta. I noticed
that something is fishy and weird, because I read posts with some unrelated
videos embedded within them, but I caught it happening red handed around
Chrome 7, I believe. Maybe even prior to 7.
- In the attached screenshots, you can see the latest Google Chrome Blog
post (1) within reader, showing a video that I have played from a previous
post (2). You can clearly see that the video and the post are definitely
unrelated.

(2)
http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/blogspot/MKuf/~3/mfs0djPhh5Q/designing-award-winning-video-games.html.
- The Developer Tools show these codes within the Elements panel -
The iFrame -
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="314"
src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/jOxGL29-t_4?rel=0" title="YouTube video
player" width="504"></iframe>
The code within the iFrame (the head only, the rest of the code is
attached, if you need it) -
<html><head>
<title>YouTube - Designing Uncharted 2 with SketchUp</title>
<link rel="stylesheet"
href="http://s.ytimg.com/yt/cssbin/www-embed-vflANvGfU.css">
</head>
- Within the Developer Tools, the Resources panel shows a different URL
(than the URL that the Elements panel shows) for the loaded frame
(attached).

(No comment was entered for this change.)
Issue 71680 has been merged into this issue.
I have seen this behavior with mobile Safari on the iPhone, so it's
probably at the WebKit level.
Issue 60489 has been merged into this issue.
Bug 59576 may be related.
I've been having this problem pretty consistently in Chrome 9.0.597.107
while running Google Reader.
Same problem since an update to Chrome about two weeks ago: Ubuntu 9.10
with Chrome 10.0.648.133
This has been happening to me for a few weeks now, I'm pretty sure it was
an update to either Chrome or Reader.
Whatever the first embedded YouTube video is that I encounter in my feed,
that will be the video that shows up in place of all other embedded YouTube
videos in Reader until I reload the tab that contains my Reader instance.
As long as I keep the same Reader instance, I'll have that one, same video
show up over and over again.
Strangely enough, it does not happen with Viddler, Vimeo, or any other
Video hosting service; only YouTube. Perhaps it is some optimization for
YouTube video loading in Chrome/Reader?
I am currently experiencing it with Chrome 11.0.696.16 Dev running on
Windows 7 x64.
It happened to this week with d.co.il, too, so I believe this is not
isolated to YouTube.
Happens every time with make blog for me.

Could this also be a security issue?
Since this is inconsistent (for me) and I am not sure how to reproduce, it
is hard for me to search for a vulnerability.
I have the same issue since weeks (Chrome 11.0.696.25) - it's the beta
channel, but I guess it shouldn't be there either.. Funny thing is that
it's even across different Video services and domains. For example the
iFrame might have a Youtube-source, but the player in the body of the
iFrame is a Vimeo player!
Attached is the HTML source code grabbed from the Inspector.
I have the feeling it's getting worse and worse, I pretty much have it all
the time now on Video-Posts, sometimes it even loads Google Ads into the
iFrame of the Video player.

If someone can reliably and consistently reproduce it with their own server
and make cross domain scripting work because of this issue, it would
probably get a much higher priority, being a security risk.
Anyone?
Issue 76418 has been merged into this issue.

This is defeating the sole purpose of browsing - it is simply not showing
the content it is supposed to show. It is not like it displays it
incorrectly (in terms of layout), it simply shows the wrong *page*.
It never happens in other browsers.
Prioritizing it higher.
Fix For Vimeo Embed Video Post Issues With Word Press.
Use this universal embed code and insert the vimeo video id into the red
areas along with adding the new video title codes underneath the embed
video codes:
1.
<embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="400" height="225"
src="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=22912909&server=vimeo.com&show_title=0&show_byline=0&show_portrait=0&color=00adef&fullscreen=1&autoplay=0&loop=0"
allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always"></embed>
2.
<a href="http://vimeo.com/22912909">Saucony "What is Strong?" :60</a> from
<a href="http://vimeo.com/shilo">Shilo</a> on <a
href="http://vimeo.com">Vimeo</a>.
Step 1. Change out the video code number that vimeo provides for each video
and replace it with your new video code.
Step 2. Add teh new video title embed code from the new video underneath
the previous code like shown above. This code should be ok to just paste
without any changes as it already has the new video code within it. It is
just the video title info so it is ok to go.
Place all of this into your wordpress html post editor, then switch tabs to
visual and boom! Now your video will post to your wordpress blog!

Same problem here since months ago. Chrome 11.0.696.68.
This is getting really annoying.
I see this happen with any iframe, including youtube and vimeo as already
mentioned, but also for example the commentbox on slashdot feed items. I've
been on the beta channel of chrome since 7 and I've seen it on everything
from ubuntu to windows xp and windows 7 in that time.
This issue is also being discussed on the help forums, no solutions ATM::

@gbastosf -
Your point being...?
The bug to which philharnish linked was resolved within WebKit, in a non
Chromium specific area.
Once this fix gets to those devices (I bet it will take a year), this
should be resolved there as well (if that fix indeed fixed this issue).
Starred.. please fix this bug, been ongoing for months now.

As comment 36 indicates, a possible fix for this was checked in on the
WebKit side at http://trac.webkit.org/changeset/91583. The current dev
channel release (14.0.835.29) has that change. Please comment if you can
still get this bug to trigger in that release or later ones.
Issue 83675 has been merged into this issue.
Issue 85234 has been merged into this issue.
Could someone please explain in layman's terms what to do with the webkit
link that should fix this bug? It's Greek to me.
@Manawlf -
Basically, nothing.
The possible fix will apparently be in Chrome 14 (we are now at Chrome 13,
so it means that in about 6 more weeks, you should see this fix in action).
If you want to see if it fixes the issue now, you can subscribe to one of
the the early release channels (canary or dev have the fix). The process is
explained here -
http://www.chromium.org/chrome-release-channels
It's not solved. Keeps coming up all the time.
Ariel (comment 50): what Chrome version are you seeing this in? The fix is
in Chrome 14 (currently on the beta channel).
@sitruss -
What is your Chrome version?
Sorry for not answering. Not sure if it was 13 when it was happening, but
now its 14. I haven't seen it happen again since, but then again, i didn't
use the Reader much last week. I'll check today and will answer if i keep
having the issue.
Thanx a lot
I've had the problem for months with pre 14. Since 14 everything works as
expected. I suspect you'll find it works fine now.
have been having this issue for a long time now... I 've also noticed that
if you clear your cache and cookies... the problems seems to be subduded
for a certain period of time before returning again..
What version are you using?
Same problem under Safari 5.1.3 (7534.53.10) with OS X 10.7.3
