xiyuan@, I'm looking through some logs from a repro of this issue, and I
think it could potentially be related to issue 476577 or issue 469170
(would be great if you can confirm or advise if something different). I've
confirmed the app's manifest is valid JSON.

Here's a snippet of the logs: /var/log/chrome/chrome_*

Comment #9 on issue 462732 by TukeS...@gmail.com: TestNav App stuck
at "Waiting for the application Window" and won't open in Kiosk mode
https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=462732

Reported by TukeS...@gmail.com, May 6 (6 days ago)
UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like
Gecko) Chrome/42.0.2311.135 Safari/537.36
Platform: 6680.78.0 (Official Build) stable channel falco

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Power on Chromebook
2. Select Kiosk Apps - TestNav or AirSecureTest
3. Open TestNav or AirSecureTest

What is the expected behavior?
TestNav or AirSecure app should load

What went wrong?
While attempting to run TestNav or AirSecure app, splash screen appears
with TestNav title or AIRSecure and a Chrome logo - no icon of either app
loads
Message waiting for application window
Loading icon spins and the app will not load to TestNav or AirSecureTest

App will run one time successfully after a fresh re-image or clearing of
local data

WebStore page:
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/testnav/mdmkkicfmmkgmpkmkdikhlbggogpicma

Did this work before? Yes This has worked in previous versions of ChromeOS
prior to 41

Chrome version: 41.0.2272.102 (64-bit) Channel: stable
OS Version: 41.0.02272
Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 17.0.0134-r1

This also occurs on AirSecureTest
The device in use is a HP Chromebook 14
This worked fine in previous versions of Chrome
Device has been re-imaged using OS 39
Device local data cleared and re-enrolled onto management
Policies have been refreshed
App has been reloaded to version 42 - same issue
Current installed app version of TestNav is 41

Re #9: Missing icon means crx download has failed. Not sure the cause
though because the description of how the problem occured is unclear. Any
chance to get /var/log/chrome/* on the device?

Which version did the problem happen, on M41? Does the problem happen just
by itself? And reimaging/re-enrolling is because of the problem?

> App has been reloaded to version 42 - same issue
Did you mean that ChromeOS is auto updated to 42 or manually reimaged to 42?

Unfortunately, the logs does not show kiosk launching related lines. :( The
two 0 sized logs looks strange. Usually that means crash.

Is the device in dev mode?

Can you also get to "file:///var/log/ui" and see if you can grab the last
five logs there? Thanks.

Device was logged in as Guest, the same way that the Kiosk apps operate.
Before being logged in as guest I attempted to run the test to generate the
report, upon doing that I was unable to select Control+Alt+S to close out
of the app, so I did a refresh & power to restart, then browsed as a guest
and shared the logs.

I have this issue on a Kiosk app we are using as a catalog front end for
our Public Library. The app is set to restart after a designated idle
period to clear out the previous user's search history and bring it back to
the front page via:

if(newState == "idle") {
chrome.runtime.reload()
}

It had been running fine since February, but in the past month or so we
have been experiencing the "waiting for application window" message fairly
frequently when the app restarts.

Re #25: When the device gets into that state, would it gets recovered or it
has to be re-imaged?

I'm experiencing this same issues on a Chrome box with Chrome 46. Any
update on how to fix the issue?
