Darren, I'd greatly appreciate your input on the following issue: There
are customer reports (see also issue 305457) of high incidence of TPM
errors on stout with "TPM self test failed" (quoted below, see attachment
for complete log). These errors are transient (don't show up on subsequent
boots) but seem sufficient to knock out encrypted stateful, losing
enrollment in the process. Do you have any idea w.r.t. the source of the
problem? Is it a hardware issue?

I've seen this before:
tpm_tis tpm_tis: Operation Timed out

It's tracked in issue 219092. This was fixed by
https://chromium-review.googlesource.com/202463 (and similar CLs for other
kernel versions) which makes the driver more tolerant. Are the cases you're
seeing still running the FSI (which presumably doesn't have this fix)?

Darren, thanks a lot for chiming in! The affected stouts are running a
recent stable Chrome OS (they are not pinned to a specific version).

Re #29, this is not an issue i've seen specifically. Do we have any data on
the frequency of this issue, the number of devices affected?

I have 2-3 students a day coming down to my office to be re-enrolled out of
a deployment of 900 chromebooks. It is completely random, and students say
it happens both when they shut down and restart, or when they close the lid
and open it in their next class.

This issue just occurred with one of our chromebooks.
Machine started up unenroled and time was out by a few hours too. Time
synced once connected to a network and had to be reenroled.

We have noticed we are getting this with a specific model. Its the Lenovo
ThinkPad x131e. We have not seen this with any of the other 6 models that
we have in our School District. Any resolution yet?

Our tech office is still running into these issues 2 years later, 5-10
times a day. We run the x131e chromebooks, over 900 of them. No solution.
Not to mention the countless broken hinges, monitor issues, and failed
motherboards. The indestructible x131e...
