Comment #1 on issue 177872 by dalecur...@chromium.org: Chrome doesn't
The linked video is in stereo, so there are only left and right channels.
Chrome now supports multichannel audio and opens the device with the
required number of channels for playback.

I suspect you had the system configured for surround upmix such that stereo
sources are played from all channels. Now Chrome outputs 6 channels, 4 as
silence and 2 as the proper left + right audio.

+henrika: Is there something we can do to help this? I've seen a couple of
these upmix problems lately. I.e. given a requested channel layout find the
closest channel layout supported by the hardware?

Thanks guys, but I don't understand a single word of what you're writing :)
or was this not meant for me to read?

Like I wrote: I just want to hear all 6 speakers instead of the two front
speakers, just like Firefox or Internet Explorer do when I played this same
Youtube video. And I'm pretty sure it worked until a few weeks ago. So what
happened since?

5.1 anymore
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=177872

Hmmm, @ajnol, how do you explain that InterExplorer or Firefox can play
this 2-channel clip by sending the signal to all 6 speakers of my Creative
X-FI Soundblaster 5.1 surround soundmodule i.c.w. Creative Inspire 5300 5.1
speakerset?

@jimvamp: Can you try this test build and see if it works how you expect it
to?

http://commondatastorage.googleapis.com/dalecurtis-shared/chrome-ch-layout.7z

Launch it from the command line with

chrome --user-data-dir=.tmp-data --disk-cache-dir=.tmp-cache

It doesn't have flash, so just try it with:

http://commondatastorage.googleapis.com/dalecurtis-shared/buck2.webm

Or any other HTML5 audio video files.

@dalecur,

It was a great pleasure to hear all 6 speakers again, so it worked!

I realize that Chromium is just for testing purposes (or is it not?), so
can you implement this in Chrome as well for one of the next versions to
come?

Thanks so far!

Great to hear. We'll probably only add this starting with M28. Which will
be on the dev channel soon.

Sorry for asking, I'm just a Chrome-user: what is M28, some kind of version?
And what is the dev channel?

jimvamp@: see http://www.chromium.org/getting-involved/dev-channel for
details. To summarize, the latest fix we do will first end up in Canary and
then be included in the next release of Chrome (which is called M28). The
Dev channel will then start using M28 and then users who are using Dev can
try out the new fix.

The fix above will probably end up in Canary by tomorrow.
