New issue 427007 by gshi...@chromium.org: Remote Desktop: Caps Lock gets
out of sync
https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=427007

Version: Client on Chrome Version 39.0.2171.27 beta (64-bit)
OS: Remote Desktop Client on OSX 10.9.5
Remote Desktop Host: gTrusty (although also occurs on gPrecise)

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Set Mac System Preferences > Keyboard > Modifier Keys > Caps Lock Key =
Command Key.
(I've been running with this setting on my Mac for years, and been
successfully using it with Remote Desktop for over a year. This problem
occurred for the first time a couple weeks ago.)

2. Open remote desktop in new tab to resume a session. (Recurs often, but
not always.)

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Typing into Remote Desktop window results in ALL CAPS AS IF CAPS LOCK WAS
DOWN.
However it's not, and typing in any other place on my Mac results in
lowercase letters as expected.
The light on the Caps Lock key is off (indicating Caps Lock is off).
If I hit the Caps Lock key, nothing changes.

The only workaround I've found is to:
1. Set Mac System Preferences > Keyboard > Modifier Keys > Caps Lock Key =
Caps Lock Key.
2. In Remote Desktop window, press and release Caps Lock once (so light is
on). Now typing letters in this window are lowercase as expected.
3. Anywhere else not in Remote Desktop window (typing letters are now ALL
CAPS). Press and release Caps Lock once (so light is off). Now typing
letters in this window are lowercase as expected.
4. Set Mac System Preferences > Keyboard > Modifier Keys > Caps Lock Key =
Command Key.

Comment #2 on issue 427007 by gshi...@chromium.org: Remote Desktop: Caps
I'm not sure I understand the "Mac has a bug/feature whereby we get only a
keydown for CapsLock press/release toggling it on, and a keyup when it's
toggled off" because when I remap it, CapsLock works perfectly as a Ctrl
key on Linux.

In other words, Linux seems to receive the press and release key state
perfectly.

In the past, my mapping of Caps Lock Key worked fine on Remote Desktop.
(And in fact, it still does when this bug occurs, after I perform the
workaround each time to get it back in sync.)
I have Mac System Preferences Keyboard map it to Command Key
I have Linux xmodmap map Command Key to Control Key.

This used to work great. In fact it still does once I perform the
workaround steps I listed above. (It allows me to do
cut/copy/paste/undo/find with Cmd-X, Cmd-C, Cmd-V, Cmd-Z, Cmd-F whether on
in a Mac window or in my Remote Desktop Linux window.)
