New issue 454664 by cbuck...@gmail.com: I can't update the chrome remote
desktop host
https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=454664

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36
(KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/42.0.2288.6 Safari/537.36

Example URL:
none

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. I try to re-enable remote connections to my computer
2. I'm prompted to download the Chrome remote desktop host
3. I download the installer.
4. I run the installer.

What is the expected behavior?
The old remote desktop host gets removed and replaced.

What went wrong?
The installer tries and fails to
remove "chromeremotedesktophost-36.0.1985.62.msi." The installer aborts the
installation.

I can't find the file on my hard drive, but on Control Panel, that version
of Chrome Remote Desktop Hosts is listed. When I try to uninstall that so I
can try a fresh installation, the msi file can't be found, and the
uninstallation process gets aborted.

Did this work before? Yes Until this morning, I was able to use this
computer as a Chromoting host

Chrome version: 42.0.2288.6 Channel: dev
OS Version: 6.1 (Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2)
Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 16.0 r0

I am not able to connect to this computer. When the computer was on and
connected to the internet and Chrome today, it wasn't recognized as a host.
Instead, the computer was listed as offline since yesterday.

Installer for Chrome Remote Desktop Host tries and fails to
remove "chromeremotedesktophost-40.0.2214.44.msi" older version, so update
aborts. "The older version of Chrome Remote Desktop Host cannot be removed.

Sending this back to triage since I don't believe we have a solution for
this issue. We need at least a temporary (force uninstall?) workaround
figured out until we have a longer term fix.

Suggest raising this to a Pri 2 as well.

It looks like either the windows installer registration for the Chrome
Remote Desktop Host (36.0.1985.62) is corrupted or the cached msi file is
missiong.

Chuck (cbuckser), could you please run the microsoft Fix-It tool and see
whether that resolves your problem? Link here:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/mats/program_install_and_uninstall

When prompted, choose "uninstall problems" and then "Chrome Remote Desktop
Host". When that has completed, trying downloading and installing the
latest chrome remote desktop host again.
