tenb...@gmail.com: New Tab is a blank page
I'm still getting this problem and none of the above has helped. Here's
some more detail on the symptoms. You can't open any webpages from the
omnibox or from bookmarks. When you enter a URL you just see the existing
page or a grey area in the case of a new tab. So the browser is pretty well
unusable. But, oddly, some things do still work.
The default page always opens correctly in the first tab. From that page
you can navigate normally by clicking links in the page. But when you type
a URL in the omnibox it doesn't open. As you type, google displays various
suggestions. But when you hit enter, nothing changes and you continue to
see what was there before.
When you hit enter, the icon to the left of the omnibox changes momentarily
to an X, then back to a circular arrow. This behaviour suggests that chrome
thinks it has downloaded a page which is blank.
I'm running Version 33.0.1750.117 m on Wndows Vista Business SP2. The
problem started for me today.
Another quirk is I keep getting the bell icon and the message "Hangout
services has crashed" in the notification area.
Things I tried that made no difference.
Reinstalling chrome. I completely uninstalled chrome from the control
panel, then reinstalled a fresh copy. I tried two ways (keeping and erasing
history) with no difference.
Disabling extensions. After re-installing there were no extensions
installed apart from Docs 0.0.0.6 which seems to come free with the install.
Program compatibility. I am not running chrome in compatibility mode, so I
couldn't turn it off.
