New issue 311536 by unwritte...@gmail.com: WiFi issues on HP Chromebook 11
and latest Samsung Chrombook
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=311536

Chrome Version: 31.0.1650.26
Chrome OS Platform: HP Chromebook 11

Steps to reproduce:
1. Download latest beta version
2. Try to connect to wifi

Expected result:
Wifi connects and internet is available.

Actual result:
Wifi tries to connect but after a time it errors with unexpected state:
idle or dhcp connection fails.

Tested with many different WiFi networks, resolved when restoring back to
stable.

Tested on HP Chromebook 11 and Samsung Chromebook ARM, both with the same
effects.

How frequently does this problem reproduce? (Always, sometimes, hard to
reproduce?)
Always

What is the impact to the user, and is there a workaround? If so, what is
it?
Cannot do anything online, workaround is to tether phone with micro usb and
download stable.

When the problem occurs, press Ctrl-Shift-I to create a feedback log. Then
tether your phone and have the device upload that log.

To add to this. Perhaps related.

My mum has an arm based Samsung chromebook and it has been fine up until a
few weeks ago when M30 went stable. Since then most of the time, when she
opens it up if fails to connect to her WIFI. If she manually searches for
near by WIFI routers then usually it finds the correct router and
reconnects after a minute or two (now I have told her how to do this), but
it routinely fails after reboot or when opened from idle.

I was visiting at the weekend and tested with an old series 5 dogfood
device and a chromebook pixel and they were both fine. The timing of when
she started reporting a problem fits pretty much exactly with the M30 push.

Paulw,

This sounds like a scanning issue that may have been introduced in the P11
firmware. Can you update her to beta channel and see if it goes away? Also
what kind of router does she have?

She is 200 miles away so not easy for me to test again on beta channel. If
this is likely to be fixed in m31 I will confirm whether or not the problem
goes away when this goes live.

Router is a belkin 2.4 ghz only. Not very new but still working Ok as far
as I could tell.

Thanks for the prompt response.

@pstew, if you're interested, we may have logs in this feedback report:
https://feedback.corp.google.com/#/Report/1458850629?context=ri.

The feedback extension (from @royans) says that feedback report has 16
instances of "No Wifi APs found", suggesting a scanning issue.
