New issue 131779 by nirn...@chromium.org: Unable to Enable remote
connection
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=131779

I installed the "Chrome Remote Desktop BETA" app from webstore to my mac,
fetched the .dmg, installed it, gave permissions to my @gmail.com account,
clicked on 'Enable remote connection', entered pin, but it fails with:
"Failed to start remote access service" (see screenshot).

I tried several times. No avail.

Looking at:

/Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/org.chromium.chromoting.me2me.sh: line 87:
PlistBuddy: command not found

I do have PlistBuddy on my machine:

[nirnimesh@nir-mbp ~]$ type -a PlistBuddy
PlistBuddy is /usr/local/bin/PlistBuddy
PlistBuddy is /usr/local/bin/PlistBuddy

Comment #3 on issue 131779 by nirn...@chromium.org: Unable to Enable

It worked after I made a symlink to PlistBuddy in /usr/bin

Not sure why I have PlistBuddy in /usr/local/bin/ but it sure wasn't clear
from the chromoting error message.

I think the PlistBuddy failure is a red herring. It's tracked by bug
129249, but it shouldn't prevent the host from starting as it's only used
to log the installed host version. Can you try removing the symlink, then
trying to stop and restart the host?

I had faced the issue on my mac at home, so I'll need to wait until the
evening to test on it.

I tried the same setup on my mac at work which doesn't even have PlistBuddy
and it succeeded.

It's slightly worrying that your work Mac doesn't have PlistBuddy. Can you
check /usr/libexec, which is where it is supposed to be?

Ah, yes. it's there in /usr/libexec
Not in $PATH though.

This is really strange. The problem is caused by the "Failed to create
FSRef" error. That comes from calling base::mac::FSRefFromPath(...) which
probably means there's an invalid path being passed in. It should normally
be something
like "/Library/PreferencePanes/org.chromium.chromoting.prefPane"
and the "/Library" part comes from calling
base::mac::GetLocalDirectory(NSLibraryDirectory,...)
There's something unusual about the mac this is running on, I don't think
we've seen this error before.

Comment #9 on issue 131779 by nirn...@chromium.org: Unable to Enable

I removed /usr/bin/PlistBuddy and redid the host setup. It worked. So I'm
not really sure what was wrong.

It's possible that I might have had some very old chromoting versions
installed before I installed the new one.
