New issue 491597 by maye...@gmail.com: Wrong scaled fonts and UI on normal
dpi display (too big)
https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=491597

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:38.0) Gecko/20100101
Firefox/38.0

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Install the stable version from the PPA
(http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/deb/)
2. Open the browser normally

What is the expected behavior?
The fonts and UI should look similar to the older versions

What went wrong?
Everything is far too big. And the fonts get blurry.

Did this work before? Yes Older versions before the latest update through
the PPA

Chrome version: 43.0.2357.65 (Offizieller Build) (64-Bit) Channel: stable
OS Version: Kubuntu 15.04 (vivid)
Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 11.2 r202

Staring the browser from the command line with
--force-device-scale-factor=1 fixes the issue. (A factor of 2 creates an
even bigger UI. The bad behaviour correspondents roughly to a factor of 1.5)

If it's relevant:
My system has a normal DPI display by putting 1920x1200 pixels on 17"

Yet, it could be a duplicate.

For the protocol:
$ xdpyinfo | grep -B 1 resolution
dimensions: 1920x1200 pixels (372x231 millimeters)
resolution: 131x132 dots per inch

Running
$ xrandr --dpi 96
$ google-chrome
gives a better experience, but UI and fonts don't look fitting perfectly
together (as the old versions did)

And running
$ google-chrome --force-device-scale-factor
(i.e. without a value for the --force-device-scale-factor) gives a perfect
appearance again as it was before.

A test with the latest google-chrome-unstable (which is version 44) from
the PPA shows that the problem was fixed.

Another artifact (see attached) - DnD windows grow in size. This seems to
be related.

Thanks for the report. This is a known problem in current v.43, but it's
already fixed in v.44.
Marking as a duplicate of Issue 498426
