Hello everyone,

I loved the look of chrome apps when i first read about them. Developing software that could work on windows, mac, and linux would make life so much easier and allow our software to reach a wider audience.

So i was all prepared to start developing chrome apps, but when i downloaded an example desktop app to try, i noticed that it also included the chrome apps launcher, and that the app i downloaded seems to be located inside the chrome apps folder..... that's not what i want at all. As a business i want complete control over what is installed on a users computer, and i want everything to be installed in my business folder, or on a windows system at least to be placed in the start menu without it being placed in the Chrome apps folder. Basically i want my chrome app to look like every other piece of software and not to download unnecessary chrome app launcher software. Is that possible? Is there some way to do this? Or is this just the drawback of using chrome apps?

With an extension i assume i will still be locked into using the web browser, and i am guessing that i wouldn't be able to use the software offline? But then again i don't know too much about developing chrome extensions.

Your example can be used offline, but it is built straight into the browser which is not what i am looking for. I am looking to use chrome apps for an independent desktop app and don't want to force the user to have to use chrome or chrome related products.

+1, I'd like if Google can support stand-alone app without Chrome browser, after all not everybody are having Chrome installed in their computer.
At this moment, if you are still looking for such a solution, you could try node-webkit, it makes your web app looks like a stand-alone app running on almost all of OS, the main pitfall is installation file is kinda huge(20M+ for node-webkit platform itself).
wish help you.

Hi Ben,

It would be useful, and may encourage more people to considering using chrome apps.

As Sungguk mentioned, it looks like something they might do in the future, but i think node-webkit is probably the best option at the moment even if the installation is a little big, so i have started developing a node-webkit app.

Thanks for the suggestion,

James
