This can be a side effect, also. As you don’t use much Internet Explorer, you don’t have any extensions and very little past with it (like crashing with the browser open which leads to corruption, etc.).
So next time, you can also try with a brand new profile of Chrome. It can always be the Profile’s fault. If it doesn’t works with a brand new profile, then the problem is probably Chrome or its installation. Take a look on extensions, some software installs extensions without your intervention. You can uninstall and reinstall Chrome if needed and retry. If after that it still doesn’t works, then there’s a creepy problem.
Last but not least, if you take time to do this troubleshooting, you can help Chrome, as you can fix a bug, either on Web Store or Chrome side.
