Missing UTF-8 glyphs.

I'm confused by the differences in how Firefox and Chrome display
UTF-8 glyphs. More specifically, why Chrome doesn't display some
glyphs which Firefox does. Screenshot here:

Can anyone explain why Chrome doesn't see those characters as being
available? The screenshot shows V. 12.0.742 but I have since verified
this as still being an issue in 13.0.782.41 beta.

Any help in understanding why this is the way it is would be
appreciated.
