The old Chrome Web Store updated daily.

The new Chrome Web Store appears to be updating erratically. Whether
it is due to the holidays or not remains to be seen.

If we see changes we will notify this space.

Happy Holidays to all!

Can you stick to one thread instead of creating a new one every day? Thanks.

Sure Abraham, however there is an issue with that.

Someone else wanted the dates in the header.

Suggestion?

As of 12/26, no change in app user counts :(

I think that Google's CWS team gets that the user count thing is a bit
jankey and broken at the moment. As developers, we should try to put
ourselves in their shoes. I don't know about you, but I'd hate to get
punched publicly for a bug or something that seems to have eluded me.
If you wan't reliable counts, use analytics, or something like
mixpanel... point is, I think they get it, the reminders are just the
salt/lemon combo for the open wound. Besides. the cws usercount stat's
have always trailed to far to be valuable other than serve the purpose
to stroke the egos of developers.

Good point. Rest assured, there isn't any malicious intent sharing
user count update information. I think we are all sensitive to the
plight of the Google coder.

With that said, I am surprised there is SO much sensitivity out
there. I know of quite a few app coders that don't get paid unless
their apps are being used.

The intention of informing this space that user accounts have not been
updated is simply to share factual news.

The business fact is that there are over 15,000 app developers who
have invested considerable time is supporting the Chrome Web Store.

To not be able to get performance metrics is quite distressing.

Analytics are an option however they do not provide data that the CWS
only can provide -

a) Active Users
b) Analytics falsely reports numbers where frames are involved
c) Formally - downloads

Further, as some app developers have experienced - apps are sometime
taken out of the CWS for a variety of reasons. Does the lack of user
count updating mean that the Developer Dashboard is frozen - is there
a chance that any given app has been taken down but the dashboard
isn't showing it?

With all due respect Chris, is asking a store owner to report reliable
sales counts to its suppliers, asking too much?

I failed to mention another reason for keeping this space informed.

:) It means I don't have to private message the myriad of requests
for news on whether the counts have been updated...

I truly do not see the difficulty in putting a setInterval with a 24hr
timer in your background page to heartbeat a google analytics event,
giving you "active users".
Putting a conditional that checks localstorage and saves a version
variable that when incremented fires a analytic event to give you
"upgrade counts".
Putting a conditional that checks if it's ever been installed before
and if not, fires a analytic event and gives you "initial
installation".

The deltas between those events to calculate trends.... then again, if
I dont get the kerfluffle.

Over time I've befriended a few app users. A few of these app users
have only one app. There have been times where some apps are updated,
some aren't. Thus, when a single app owner asks if I am seeing store
wide or just partial change I answer.

Thus I figured I'd be doing a service by posting info here.

I didn't realize how upsetting sharing this information would be.

Users should read developers.

Hi everyone,
The engineering team is aware of the issues and working to resolve this (and working to prevent it from recurring). I'll post again when I have more information.

Thanks Jan.

Another thought from prior discussion - another reason user count is
important is for CWS visibility. Clicking the popular tab aligns apps
based on user counts. High user counts assures hi viz and more use.

3 of 13 apps tracked have seen user counts change.

Seems the update process has commenced.

I'll final note this thread when all apps have completed.

All apps in our small sample have new user counts - 12/27 23:00 UTC.

Thanks Jan and Google.

Thanks Jan.

Do you know if the custom of daily updates have changed, or if the
update delays are just bugs being worked out?

The expected behavior is for the user counts to update daily.
